Chat Room Tips:

  • You may enter a private chat room with someone by double-clicking on their name in the right window.
  • To change rooms, select a channel from the pull-down "Channel" menu on the top.
  • To create your own room, select "New Channel" from the pull-down "Channel" menu, and enter your channel name. If it doesn't already exist, it will be created and you become the Operator of the channel. You can then use the commands under the "Control" menu to change the settings for that channel. For example: Channel topic.

    Browser Compatibility:

Our chat rooms will only work with Internet Explorer 4.0 and above, Netscape 4.08 and above, and IE 4.5 if you have a Mac. It may also work with some AOL browsers.

What is that pop up window asking for "permission"?

We sign the applet with Thawte digital certificate to by pass the Java applet sandbox. You can safely say yes to this request. If you don't grant these permissions, the applet will not function properly.

Why am I unable to connect?

    There are several possibilities:

  • You are using a very old version of IE or Netscape. Only IE 4 or above and Netscape 4.08 or above is supported by our chat rooms.

  • When the popup window first appears and asks for granting permission, the you have denied the request. Without such permission, the applet will not be able to connect to any IRC servers around the world.

  • Some IRC servers deny connection from some ISP domains (due to abuse or flooding coming from that domain). For example, some IRC servers do not allow AOL users to connect. And some IRC servers require you to have Identd installed and running on your computer (Identd is included in our chat rooms, and it is turn on by default). There are thousands of public IRC servers available, you can always find one that is friendly to your environment.

  • IE browser allow users to modify its Internet Security Setting, if you are not using the default security setting and disabled the support of signed applet, our chat rooms may not work properly. If this is the case, revert the IE security to default medium level.
